I really appreciate the point that John Stackhouse is making here. Knowing someone’s religious belief (or as he later suggests, “world-and-lifeview”) is important if one is trying to determine how they will make decisions. Certainly within the Christian faith it is understood that our beliefs are to have some consequence in our lives. I am not especially encouraged by those who believe they can compartmentalize their existence into their religious lives and “the rest of their lives.” Makes me suspect that their religious beliefs are simply sentimental attachments at best or at worst, not worth a bucket of spit.
